Joint Physiotherapy and Osteopathy Sessions for Children
Infant or congenital torticollis shows as a head tilt to one side and rotation in three opposite direction.
You may notice your baby’s head always turned to the same side and easily returns back that way of you position it to the centre.
It is caused by a shortened sternocleidomastoid muscle. This can happen inside the womb, during birth especially assisted delivery or soon after birth.
Plagiocephally, head flattening occurs with torticollis due to sustained pressure on one side of the head.
Most cases of infant torticollis and Plagiocephally benefit from therapy. Starting younger can lead to better results.
There are adjunct equipment and orthotics which may be helpful but hands on assessment and therapy is the first line treatment.
At Clinic 124 we have expanded our view on torticollis into an innovative, 360 approach to assess and address the whole spine asymmetry, which we find results from this early injury. We provide integrated orthopaedic assessment, holistic cranial osteopathic treatment and developmental movement sessions with specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist, Fran Thompson and Osteopath, Gemma Dawson.
